Responsibility is central to the way we do business: it governs the way we work and deliver value. Building on foundations laid over five generations, we're dedicated to healthy growth that benefits our shareholders as much as our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we're active.
For us, at Schindler, being a responsible company is more than just striving to minimise the use of natural resources. We also enable sustainable, smart urban mobility, while committing to a sustainable supply chain for all our products and drive innovation for green building management.
Being responsible also means that we empower an inclusive work environment in which a workforce as diverse as our customers and passengers can thrive. And we are proud of the value we create in the communities we are part of, for instance by helping develop young talent through education and training, and by fostering lifelong learning for our technicians.
We have set a Sustainability Roadmap for 2022 which is driven by the Board of Directors. It establishes a clear framework for action on six strategic priorities to generate the greatest possible impact.
Our Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) priorities were identified through consultations with the Group Executive Committee and a selection of senior managers across our organisation. A panel of independent experts added their insights to ensure our roadmap is focused on areas where we can make the biggest contribution.
Every day, we move more than 2 billion passengers, who rely on our products to get around – that means the safety and reliability of our products are critical.
We pioneer smart mobility with our ideas and solutions, keeping an ever-growing urban world easily accessible and making each trip safe and efficient.
We are committed to increase sustainability and environmental awareness in our supply chain while maintaining high standards of safety & quality.
With our global service vehicle fleet, Schindler technicians are on the move to provide seamless mobility for everyone, 24 hours a day.
Our global presence, with more than 70,000 people spread across 100 countries, gives us access to the full spectrum of human diversity. We are proud to provide a work environment that is inclusive and diverse.
We keep communities on the move – but not only. We make a positive contribution to society through targeted Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

As a producer of industrial lead acid and NiCd batteries, under the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, we're happy to take back, free of charge, waste industrial batteries supplied to an end user for treatment and recycling. We do this in any calendar year we place new industrial batteries on the market.
If any of our customers, or in certain cases other end users, require us to take back Industrial batteries, they should contact us at wastebatteries.gb@schindler.com. We will agree the necessary arrangements for the return, proper treatment and recycling of the waste industrial batteries.
All Schindler VDI measurements are taken on real installations; therefore, we deliver what we promise.
VDI ratings from other providers may not be tested in the same way - so make sure to check the small print to see if results were achieved on real installations, like ours, or in a test environment under optimised conditions.
VDI labelling is valid for the measured installation only - we use it as indicators to see where we can improve our products and to provide transparency for you, our customers.
At Schindler we're always looking to reduce energy consumption by making our systems more efficient.
